From Red to Blush: The Most Dramatic Winter Wedding Florals We Have Ever Designed

Some weddings you design and forget. And then there are weddings like Sadie and Jeff's that live in your heart permanently.
This was one of those weddings.
A winter celebration in American Fork, Utah that went completely all out on flowers in the most beautiful way. An ombre palette moving from the deepest, richest red at the base of everything and blooming upward and outward into the softest blush and white. A wedding party of sixteen on each side. Florals on absolutely every surface. And a couple who trusted me completely to bring something extraordinary to life.
I still think about this one all the time.
The Vision: Ombre Red to Blush
When Sadie first described what she wanted I knew immediately that this was going to be something special. An ombre color story moving from deep red through hot pink, through every shade of blush and rose, all the way to the softest pale pink and white at the top. Rich and dramatic and deeply romantic all at once.
It is the kind of palette that could go wrong very easily if it is not handled with intention. Too many colors competing and it becomes chaotic. Too rigidly separated and it looks forced. The secret is in the transition, in the way one shade melts into the next so naturally that you almost cannot tell where one color ends and another begins.
That is exactly what we built. And looking at these photos I am still so proud of how it came together.
The Ceremony Arch
The ceremony arch columns are probably my favorite thing I have ever designed. And I do not say that lightly.
Two tall floral columns standing on either side of the ceremony space, under the most beautiful canopy of string lights and tropical indoor trees, with the warmth of the venue wrapping everything in the most magical glow.
Each column started at the base with the deepest, most saturated red roses and ranunculus you can imagine, rich and velvety and completely dramatic. Then as your eye traveled upward the color began to shift, moving through hot pinks and bright fuchsias and warm magentas, softening gradually into blush garden roses and pink orchids, and finally reaching the very top in the palest whisper of blush and white with orchid blooms cascading down like they simply could not help themselves.
The effect in person was genuinely breathtaking. Guests walked in and stopped. Every single one of them.
The Reception Tables
I designed the reception with long banquet style tables draped in the most beautiful dusty rose velvet runners. The velvet was essential — it grounded the whole color story and added that tactile, luxurious quality that photographs so beautifully in warm indoor light.
Down the center of every table, centerpiece arrangements sat in white ceramic vessels, each one overflowing with garden roses, ranunculus, anemones, sweet pea, and astilbe in that same ombre palette. No two arrangements were identical. Each one was slightly different in its color balance, some leaning a little richer and deeper, others softer and blushier, so the whole table told a story as your eye moved down its length.
Between the centerpieces, individual bud vases held single stems and small clusters of blooms in every shade of the palette. Taper candles in cream and deep red stood at varying heights throughout, with the most beautiful thin satin ribbons tied around some of the stems in hot pink and blush. The whole table had this layered, abundant, completely intentional quality that I am so proud of.
And at the far end of the room, above the fireplace mantle, a dramatic installation of cascading blooms in deep red and hot pink and blush tumbled downward in the most spectacular way, anchoring the whole reception space and drawing your eye the moment you walked through the door.
The Close Up: What Went Into That Arrangement
I want to spend a moment on the florals themselves because the variety and layering in this wedding was genuinely extraordinary.
Garden roses in at least five different varieties and shades, from the deepest burgundy red through hot pink and warm rose to the palest blush. Peonies in soft pink and white, their enormous lush heads adding that romantic fullness that nothing else replicates. Ranunculus in deep burgundy and pink and the most delicate blush. Anemones with their dramatic dark centers creating depth and contrast throughout. Sweet pea trailing in soft pink and lilac. Scabiosa in deep purple and burgundy adding that wildflower, textural quality. Astilbe in pink and red feathering upward through everything. Amaranth cascading and draping in the most extraordinary way. And painted fern fronds in deep pink giving the whole thing an unexpected, almost surreal quality that I absolutely loved.
It was one of the most complex and layered arrangements I have ever built and it was completely worth every single stem.
The Cake Table
The cake itself was simple and beautiful, a single tier in soft cream with delicate textured frosting. Which meant the flowers got to do all the talking.
I built a full floral spread completely surrounding the base of the cake, a lush garden of roses and ranunculus and anemones and carnations and sweet pea in that same ombre palette, spilling outward across the table in every direction. It looked like the cake was growing right out of a flower garden. Which was exactly the idea.
Guests could not stop photographing it. Neither could I honestly.
The Ceremony to Reception Repurpose
One of the things I am most proud of from Sadie and Jeff's wedding is something most guests never even noticed — and that is exactly the point.
Every floral element from the ceremony was thoughtfully repurposed and repositioned for the reception. The arch column arrangements were moved and restaged. Ceremony florals found new homes on the reception tables and in the cocktail hour space. Not a single stem went to waste.
This is something I feel strongly about in my work. Florals represent a real investment for couples and I believe in honoring that investment by getting every possible moment of beauty out of every bloom. When it is done well, as it was here, guests move from ceremony to reception and the whole space feels fresh and considered and completely intentional rather than stripped down.
Sadie and Jeff went all out. And we made sure every dollar of that investment showed up beautifully in every room, at every moment of their day.
The Wedding Party: Sixteen on Each Side
Thirty two people in the wedding party. Thirty two bouquets and boutonnieres, each one coordinating with the ombre palette while feeling individually considered and beautiful.
The bridesmaids carried arrangements that moved through the color story — some in deeper pinks and reds, others in softer blush, so when they all stood together at the altar the whole party became part of the ombre installation. It was completely intentional and completely stunning.
What This Wedding Taught Me
Sadie and Jeff trusted me with something really ambitious. An ombre palette across that many floral elements, at that scale, with that level of detail, requires an enormous amount of planning and a very clear vision carried through every single decision from the first stem to the last bud vase.
It is the kind of wedding that reminds me exactly why I do this work. Not just because the end result is beautiful, though it absolutely is. But because of what it represents — two people who believed that their wedding day was worth celebrating with complete intention and zero compromise on the details that mattered most to them.
That is the kind of couple I am here for. Every single time.
